Frogs in the Laundry… yet another joy of bringing up boys.
Mom’s are great at multi-tasking, don’t you think? While walking from the kitchen to the bedroom we may sweep the floor, wipe the counter, straighten the curtains, empty the waste basket, clean the toilet, fold the laundry… ah yes, the laundry…
During the summer I like to dry the laundry at night while my family is sleeping to minimize the heat being generated by the dryer. The cool night air is a welcome visitor slipping in the bathroom windows. While working late last night I took a break from the projects underway here in the office to tend to that “other” project… the latest load was ready to be folded.
As I bent down to pull the soft towels from the dryer a sudden movement caught my eye. I screamed in spite of the fact that everyone in the house was fast asleep. My mind commanding my feet to race out of the room, I tried to stand my ground and make myself look for the creature that
had just taken my nerves to the very edge. Could it be a mouse? Oooohhh…. I hate mice! Under the dresser I could just see a dark form hiding in the shadows.
I left the room only long enough to grab the flashlight and the broom. I was sure I didn’t really WANT to see whatever was hiding below, but at the same time, knew that I MUST see it… how else would I know how terrified to be?!?
I breathed a sign of relief. Other that the size, nothing else about the speckled green frog staring at me resembled a mouse… in fact, at this point I’m sure the frog was the one in terror upon seeing me- flashlight in one hand, samurai sword in the other!
Please don’t ask me to confess how many times I’ve said “Boys Lord? Are you sure you intended them for me???”. :) The oldest of three girls, I had no idea what I was in for when this journey began eight years ago!
Blessing check… at least this bright-eyed croaking creature staring up at me is on the bathroom floor and not inside the washing machine with the denim shorts he most likely escaped from! A frog in the laundry. I love being a Mom to boys!

Oh, Lorrie!
Just yesterday a friend and I were going over the finer points of finding Polly Pocket clothes in our laundry (much better to wash than dry…after they go through the dryer, they are super-sticky and VERY hard to put on the dolls again!)…but FROGS??? I do believe God gave me girls for a reason :). We’re praying for your father-in-law…keep us posted on how he’s doing, please :)!
*HUGS!*
